ChildPlus Section B: Mastering the Data Maze with a Smile

Welcome back, data adventurers! We've already conquered Section A, and now it's time to tackle the tricky areas of Section B of ChildPlus. You'll note not all questions are represented here, just the ones that usually cause some programs some stress. Grab your trusty ChildPlus calculation guide (your cheat sheet, really), and let's dive into this data maze together. Remember, ChildPlus tells you what data you have, not if your math is off – so let's stay sharp!

Section B Breakdown:

1. Confirm B1: Use Report 9720 to confirm that every staff member is listed and has a site and program assigned. If they aren't there, confirm they have a funding source aligned with the PIR funding source in the personnel tab. No free passes here!

2. B3 (Head Start classroom teachers and assistant teachers only): B3 should match the number of classes listed in A9. If you say you have 9 classrooms, you must have 9 teachers and 9 assistant teachers listed in B3a-d. Consistency is key – it’s like matching socks but more important.

3. B3 Confirmation: Make sure teachers and assistant teachers are listed correctly with their PIR positions and education info entered. All teachers and assistant teachers must have their education entered. Use the Personnel tab located in Management to enter verified education for each person listed in B3. Any lead teacher without education information will automatically populate to this question, and we don’t want that! We’re not just checking boxes here!

4. B5: This mirrors B4 for assistant teachers. Think of it as the B4 clone. If the math is off here,  double-check that B3 is correct!

5. B6 and B7: Early Head Start Assistant Teachers should be classified as Teachers in their PIR position. B6 should correlate directly with A9. Remember there's no "Assistant Teacher" position on the PIR for EHS, so B6 needs to be double what you have in A9. If you have 9 classrooms in A9, you need to have 18 teachers listed in B6! It’s like connecting the dots, but with more responsibility.

6. B11 - Salary by Degree: This covers classroom teachers only, segmented by degree. Ensure all data for B6 or B3 is captured under B11. Degrees of separation? Not here!

7. B12 - Salary by Position: If a staff member appears in B3, B6, B8, or B9, their salary info must be included in B12. Show us the money details!

8. B13: Any staff identifying as “other” or “unspecified” must have an explanation. This applies to all non-supervisory education and child development staff, including teachers, assistant teachers, home visitors, and FCC providers." Mystery solved!

9. B16 to 19: Regularly update personnel information, at least annually. For departing staff, ensure termination dates and replacements are entered. This prevents missing data in the PIR – keep it current! Think of it as updating your social media status, but way more crucial.

10. B18-D: Any entries here require explanations. No mysterious entries allowed!

11. B19 Manual Entry: Ensure this number doesn’t exceed B16. Bigger isn’t always better here!

And there you have it! Section B decoded with a sprinkle of humor and a dash of wit. Keep that ChildPlus calculation guide close and let’s turn this data maze into a well-organized playground. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks in our ongoing series. Happy data wrangling, you rockstars!
