ChildPlus Section C: Untangling the Data Web with a Wink

Image of hands and laptop with illustration of data web

Hello again, data wizards! We’ve successfully navigated Sections A and B, and now we’re diving into the depths of Section C. Buckle up, because this part is so detailed, we’ll cover it in two installments. But remember, this blog doesn't cover all the questions – just the tricky ones that tend to trip us up. Let’s get started with a smile and a steady hand on our trusty ChildPlus calculation guide!

Section C Breakdown: Part 1

1. C1 and C2: Must equal your cumulative number from A10g. Keep those numbers matching like a perfectly paired outfit.

2. C3 and C4: Must equal the cumulative number from A11. Another match made in data heaven!

3. C7: This one’s a doozy! Use Report 9711 to confirm the reasons children aren’t counted. Think of it as your secret decoder ring for mysterious absences.

4. C8a and C8b: Must equal C8. Make sure to close the data loop for each child. Do they have a chronic condition? Did they get treatment? If not, ensure every child who didn’t get treatment is listed in C8b with a reason. It’s like tying up all the loose ends in your favorite novel.

5. C8b6 MUST Have a Reason: No mystery data here! Every entry in C8b6 needs an explanation. Think of it like a mystery novel where every clue leads to a logical conclusion.

6. C10: If fewer than 100% of children received their growth assessment, you must explain why. However, the comment field only materializes in HSES if less than 100% of children receive their growth assessment. If that happens, aggregate those results – for example, "Two children dropped out before assessment," or "Three children were assessed outside the program term." Missing pieces? We've got answers!

8. C21a: Manual entry. Must be answered. No blanks allowed here – it’s like a pop quiz that counts!

9. C22 and 23: No lie, these questions are particularly math prone, and if you're like us you know that math is hard! Pay particular attention to the math for C22 and C23. Start by ensuring that C22a1 and C22a2 add up to C22A. If they don’t, this is one of the few times you'll hear us recommend to manually override the dates and correct the data. Check Report 9717 for accuracy and make changes as needed. Typical override scenarios: a child was evaluated and qualified for services, but the IEP/IFSP wasn’t entered yet. Update it in CP! There are very few questions that deserve a manual override, and these are some of them!

10. C23a-d: Must equal C22b. Simple math but crucial. Think of it like balancing your checkbook – remember those?

11. C23d: Must be explained. Each number in C23d needs an explanation, ensuring everything adds up neatly. Every entry has a story- close the loop!

And there you have it, folks! The first half of Section C is demystified with a touch of humor. Keep your ChildPlus calculation guide handy and stay tuned for the next installment, where we’ll continue to unravel the data web with a smile. Happy data diving!
